About St. Luke's
Rooted in a spirit of joyful service and inclusivity, our community endeavors to be a bold witness of hospitality.
St. Luke’s is an active faith community that has been serving the people of Portland and the Diocese of Maine for more than 150 years. Our congregation welcomes visitors from across the State of Maine, the country, and the world. We participate in furthering the mission and ministries of the Diocese and serve as a symbol of the unified vision of all parishes within Maine.
No matter who you are or where you might be in your spiritual life, you are welcome here! We hope you'll join us as we worship together, build community, serve others, and cultivate compassion and generosity in all that we do.

Our Life at St. Luke's
All are welcome here. All are loved here. There are no exceptions.
Our Cathedral
The Cathedral Church of St. Luke serves all parishes in the Diocese of Maine. We welcome visitors from across the state and beyond, providing a spiritual home for all and a unified center for the work and ministry of the Bishop.
Our People
Our community is sustained through the love and care of our clergy, parishioners, volunteers, Lesser Chapter, neighbors, and staff.
Our Spiritual Life
We are grateful for opportunities to learn and grow together as we nourish our spiritual life through worship, music, study groups, community gatherings, prayer groups, education and formation programs, and newcomers classes. All are welcome and invited to join.
Our Mission
We are a prayerful faith community grounded in Scripture, tradition, and reason. We welcome all, seeking to model Christ’s radical, unconditional love and inclusivity. We offer compassionate service for the people of the Cathedral, the Diocese, and the wider community. We do this through worship, education, and social justice advocacy.
Our Worship
We welcome all people to join us in worship. Through worship, we affirm our compassion and care for both the wider community and one another.
Our Music
Music is at the core of our identity. Music enriches our worship and brings us together as a community. We are proud to host more than 50 concerts and music performances each year.
Our Ministries
Our diverse ministries are a reflection of our commitment to the Cathedral's mission. Through our ministries, we deepen our understanding of Christ's teachings and discover new possibilities for growing in God’s abundant love.
Our History
Our 1867 cathedral is a historic treasure, filled with art and beauty. We invite you to learn more about our sacred space.
Our Labyrinth
The labyrinth is a prayerful pilgrimage into the center—our own centers and the heart of God. At St. Luke's, the labyrinth has been fashioned after that at Chartres. All are welcome to walk the labyrinth.

St. Luke’s Territorial Acknowledgement
St Luke’s acknowledges that we are worshiping on “unceded territory taken by force and previously occupied by the Wabanaki people” (Amended City Charter, Portland, Maine). Some of the resources that built this cathedral came from industry related to the slave trade in the 18th & 19th centuries.
We join our fellow residents in honoring the Wabanaki knowledge and culture that continues to thrive in the Tribal Nations. We ask for Blessing and Peace upon all indigenous peoples that have called, and always will call, this place—“The Dawnland”—HOME.
